What Has Happened To Amanda Bynes? Latest Antic Proves Something Is Not Right

Amanda Bynes was once on top of the world. She was a wildly successful actress starring on the hit Nickelodeon television show, “All That,” along with her own spinoff, The Amanda Show, in the 1990s and 2000s.

Her wholesome, girl-next-door looks and ability to make people laugh propelled her on to more significant roles.

From 2002 to 2006, Bynes was a mainstay on the WB sitcom, What I Like About You. Soon after, she made her big break in the film industry, appearing in What a Girl Wants, Big Fat Liar, Hairspray, and Easy A. But by 2010, things were starting to go downhill fast for the actress.

That year, she announced that she would be taking a hiatus from acting for personal reasons. But what really happened to her and what does her most recent antic indicate about her well-being?

What initiated the downward spiral, it’s not completely known, but perhaps being in the spotlight brought out the need to abuse substances in order to counter the development of mental illness that were progressing for her. Whatever it was, it changed Bynes drastically.

In 2012, the actress was charged with a DUI in West Hollywood, but the charge was dropped two years later with Bynes only receiving three years of probation.

Only a year later, she was charged with reckless endangerment and marijuana possession after being caught smoking a joint in the lobby of her Manhattan apartment building. When the police officers arrived and came up to her 36th-floor apartment, she proceeded to throw a bong out of the window. Her Psychiatric Illnesses Exposed

Her troublesome behavior would not end there, as just later that same year, she was detained for allegedly starting a fire in the driveway of a stranger’s home in Thousand Oaks. As a result, she was forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation for 72 hours in a hospital.

In 2014, Bynes went on Twitter and shot off a series of tweets condemning her parents for emotional and sexual abuse, a claim that her parent vehemently denied. Only later did Bynes retract her statement, claiming that she was never abused, but “the microchip in my brain made me say those things but [her father’s] the one that ordered them to microchip me”.

Soon after, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and began her journey to end substance abuse, something that would prove very challenging for the once-successful actress. The Development of Drug Addiction

For Bynes, she had tried handfuls of different drugs. She didn’t really like to drink, as alcohol didn’t give her a good feeling. “I never liked the taste of alcohol. I could not stomach it,” she told Paper Magazine.

Marijuana soon became her drug of choice, citing, “I started smoking marijuana when I was 16. Even though everyone thought I was the ‘good girl,’ I did smoke marijuana from that point on.” For Bynes, though, that recreational pot use resulting in her delving into more serious and dangerous drugs.

“Later on it progressed to doing molly and ecstasy,” she said. “[I tried] cocaine three times but I never got high from cocaine. I never liked it. It was never my drug of choice.”

The one drug that she began taking and couldn’t stop was Adderall. She became addicted not only from the high she got, but also because it was touted as the ‘skinny girl’ drug. According to the actress, this was what became the beginning of the end for her.Battling to Fight Addiction and Get Well

Between coping with her mental illness diagnosis and the fight to stay sober, it’s been tough for Bynes. She began attending school for Fashion at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) and seemed to be making progress in her life, but soon dropped out.

Recently, however, she entered a sober living facility due to a relapse and just moved back in with her parents so that they could help her with her battle with addiction. Unfortunately, her current state of mind is not well known right now, but if her latest antic is any indication, all still might not be well.

Bynes posted a picture of some new ink that she received. The odd part is it’s a heart tattoo on her cheek, leading people to remain worried about her overall mental health. After all, it’s not a normal place to get a tattoo.

Still, a source close to her revealed to E! News that she is doing fine, despite her odd behavior. “She may not go back [to the facility], but again, she’s not doing drugs and mentally and physically she’s okay,” they shared.

“She does not have to go back but it’s unclear what’s going to happen. She is open to getting help. In court her parents were reassured that she’s doing well and okay and that everything is back on track.”

Maybe her new ink is just an expression of her personality. We’re hoping so as she continues on her path to get healthy and sober.
